Renault’s full hybrid E-Tech technology continues its remarkable ascent, poised to surpass one million sales in the coming weeks.

Currently ranked second in hybrid sales across Europe, Renault cements its leadership through the deployment of two new-generation powertrains: the E-Tech 160 hp 1.8L and the E-Tech 200 hp, both developed by Horse Powertrain—a joint venture between Renault Group, Geely, and Aramco.

Full Hybrid E-Tech: A Technological Marvel

The E-Tech system combines a combustion engine, two electric motors, a high-efficiency battery, and an intelligent multi-mode clutchless dogbox.

Inspired by Formula 1, the gearbox integrates two gears for the main electric motor and four for the combustion engine, enabling 15 combinations that optimize torque, acceleration, and energy usage.

This full hybrid architecture supports multiple drive modes: full-electric, hybrid, e-drive, combustion, and regenerative energy recovery.

These systems allow drivers to experience electric-only drive for up to 80% of city journeys, contributing to fuel savings of up to 40% compared to traditional ICE vehicles.

Symbioz: A C-Segment Star with Record Efficiency

Now equipped with the E-Tech 160 hp 1.8L powertrain, the Renault Symbioz achieves an exceptional WLTP-certified fuel efficiency of 4.3 l/100 km and emits just 98 g/km of CO2.

The new 1.8L four-cylinder engine delivers 109 hp and 172 Nm of torque, with upgrades including a 350-bar direct injection system and Atkinson cycle combustion.

Renault

It features a new 1.4 kWh battery (20% more capacity than its predecessor) and two electric motors—a 36 kW/50 hp main motor and a 15 kW/20 hp HSG.

Together, they enable all-electric startup, enhanced acceleration (0-100 km/h in 9.1 seconds), and a driving range of up to 1,000 km. Notably, towing capacity has increased from 750 kg to 1,000 kg.

Espace: D-Segment Elegance Meets Advanced Hybridism

The E-Tech 200 hp powertrain in the new Renault Espace is now optimized with new software for smoother and more responsive acceleration, especially between 40 and 80 km/h.

The powertrain comprises a 1.2L turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine (130 hp, 205 Nm), a 50 kW/70 hp electric motor powered by a 2 kWh battery, and a 25 hp HSG.

Renault

Espace boasts a range of 1,100 km, with a best-in-class fuel economy of 4.8 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 108 g/km.

Coupled with a refined chassis on the CMF-CD platform, it features 4Control Advanced four-wheel steering, Matrix LED Vision headlamps, 32 ADAS systems, and a nearly 2m² Solarbay panoramic roof. It offers between 692 to 2,224 litres of cargo space, tailored for 5- or 7-seat configurations.

Looking Ahead

Behind these innovations is Horse Powertrain, a global hybrid powerhouse with 17 plants and 19,000 employees.

Covering 80% of global powertrain demand, Horse invests in reducing emissions, improving ICE efficiency, and advancing hybrid systems—ushering in a new era of sustainable yet thrilling mobility.
