Audi has unveiled two new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of its esteemed A6 lineup: the A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro and A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro.

Available in two power levels—220 kW and 270 kW—these electrified models seamlessly blend dynamic performance with high-end efficiency, further enriching Audi’s vision for sustainable mobility.

Audi

Equipped with larger batteries, intelligent hybrid management, and premium driving dynamics, the new A6 e-hybrid models promise up to 106 kilometers of pure electric driving.

Performance and Powertrains: Dual Offerings for Distinct Needs

Both Avant and Sedan versions are powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine producing 185 kW (252 PS), paired with a 105 kW electric motor. Two system outputs are offered:

  • 220 kW: 299 hp / 450 Nm: 0–100 km/h in 6.0 seconds
  • 270 KW: 367 hp / 500 Nm: 0–100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds

All models reach a top speed of 250 km/h, and power is delivered via a seven-speed S tronic transmission paired with Audi’s quattro ultra all-wheel drive.

Battery Technology: Bigger, Smarter, and More Capable

At the core of these hybrids lies a new 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh) high-voltage battery—an impressive 45% increase in capacity over its predecessor.

This translates to over 100 km of electric-only driving. The battery employs prismatic cells arranged in a cell-to-pack design, boosting energy density and reducing volume.

It supports three-phase AC charging at up to 11 kW, completing a full charge in approximately 2.5 hours.

Regeneration and Driving Modes: Intelligence Meets Efficiency

The A6 e-hybrid maximizes energy recovery with a multi-level recuperation system accessible via steering-wheel paddles. The hybrid system smartly adjusts regenerative braking and driving mode based on navigation data, ensuring optimal energy usage.

Two key operating modes include:

  • EV Mode: Prioritizes electric propulsion
  • Hybrid Mode: Balances electric and petrol power based on route and user settings

Ride and Handling: All-Wheel Steering as Standard

All variants feature standard all-wheel steering, improving agility and stability. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn opposite to the front for tighter turning circles, while at high speeds, they turn in the same direction for added control.

Audi

Top-tier 270 kW models benefit from a sports suspension that lowers the ride height by 20 mm and includes S line trim, 19-inch wheels, and red brake calipers. Inside, sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and premium trim underscore Audi’s sporting luxury ethos.

Comfort and Acoustics: Whisper-Quiet Luxury

Improvements in aeroacoustics elevate interior comfort, with tighter window seals, optimized door insulation, and optional acoustic glazing.

Noise absorbers in all tires (≥19 inches) and refinements in engine mounts and transmission gear design contribute to a 30% reduction in cabin noise compared to the previous generation.

Pricing and Availability

In Germany, the A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro starts at €65,800 (220 kW) and €75,050 (270 kW), while the A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro begins at €68,300 and tops out at €77,550. Orders commence May 8, 2025, with the market launch set for summer 2025.

The Bottom Line

With the new A6 e-hybrid range, Audi cements its leadership in luxury plug-in hybrids. Whether in the practical Avant or the refined Sedan, these models strike a compelling balance between spirited performance, day-to-day efficiency, and the brand’s unmistakable premium DNA. The future of executive mobility just got a lot more intelligent—and electric.
