Kia’s Concept EV2 is a bold representation of the brand’s future-oriented vision of urban mobility and in-car design. Launched at EV Day in Barcelona and now displayed at Milan Design Week 2025, the B-segment electric SUV represents a synergy of high-tech material innovation, eco-friendliness, and human-centered functionality. Inspired by the “picnic in the city” lifestyle, the Concept EV2 gives a preview of a more sustainable, adaptable urban driving experience.

Design Philosophy: Seamless Urban Living

The Concept EV2’s interior is a space-smart sanctuary built upon Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy. Akin to balconies and terraces—those small yet significant urban oases—the interior yields closeness without sacrificing flexibility. The flat-floor architecture enables the second-row seats to recline and the front seats to slide rearward, generating an accommodating space that invites productivity as well as relaxation.

Side-tumblers, removable cushions, and pop-up suitcases are examples of additions creating new degrees of flexibility, whereas cutting-edge lifestyle elements such as seat-mounted and carryable door speakers affirm the aim to reinterpret EV interiority as convenient and immersive.

CMF and Material Innovation: A Vision for the Circular Economy

Kia’s Color, Materials, and Finish (CMF) division has worked alongside international innovators to create a responsibly manufactured and stylishly evolved cabin. One of the most significant materials is Simplifyber Fybron™, a cellulose compound produced from wood, recycled fibers, and paper.

Kia

Utilized in the dashboard and door trim, it replaces plastic use through a liquid-based method that bypasses spinning or weaving, delivering a soft, premium feel with a green advantage.

The Mycelium Revolution: Fungi for the Future

Collaborating with Biomyc, Kia adds biodegradable mycelium-based elements into strategic touchpoints. Two of them are utilized: a PU-infused specimen with visible mycelium spots on light blue surfaces, and a grown volume specimen consolidating cellulose into a solid form well suited to insulating materials such as door armrests.

More than 180 samples were subjected to optimize performance, durability, and chromatic symbiosis with Kia’s Pantone color scheme.

Flax Fibre Composites: Strength Meets Sustainability

Together with Bcomp, Kia employs AmpliTex™, a bio-composite based on flax fiber, for seat shells and substructures. Completely recyclable and light in weight, AmpliTex™ maximizes structural stiffness and optimizes efficiency and supports Kia’s circular economy objectives. A dark-blue custom finish keeps the sustainable aspects looking sophisticated.

The Bottom Line

The Kia Concept EV2 is a paradigm shift in the design of electric vehicles—not just as forms of transportation but as integrated spaces responding to the realities of urban living today. With its cutting-edge bio-materials, versatile architecture, and environmental responsibility, the Concept EV2 is an outspoken commentary on the future of EV interiors—human-focused, green, and specifically designed for life on the move.
