Porsche Penske Motorsport continued its unparalleled endurance racing success with a dominating one-two finish at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the second race of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The No. 7 Porsche 963, driven by Felipe Nasr (Brazil), Nick Tandy (UK), and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium), took the win, having already won the 24 Hours of Daytona in January. The No. 6 sister car, driven by Matt Campbell (Australia), Mathieu Jaminet (France), and Kévin Estre (France), came home a mere 2.239 seconds behind, making for a stellar result for the Porsche factory team.
A Battle Against the Elements and the Competition
Under strenuous conditions, with the track temperatures reaching 31 degrees Celsius, the No. 7 Porsche 963 took the lead within the first 15 minutes, driven by Nasr. Although the team briefly lost the lead, they took back control later in the evening, demonstrating incredible resilience and strategic prowess. The turning point came after the ninth and last yellow flag, when Nasr repelled hard-charging competition in the final 31 minutes to win Porsche’s 19th overall Sebring win, its first since 2008.

The No. 6 machine also put in a strong performance, remaining in contention for much of the race and clinching a one-two win for Porsche Penske Motorsport. This success further entrenches Porsche’s lead in the manufacturers’ championship, with both of its driver crews now taking the top two positions in the overall championship rankings.

In the GTD Pro category, AO Racing won its maiden major endurance racing victory with the 911 GT3 R, lovingly nicknamed “Rexy.” The crew, composed of Laurin Heinrich (Germany), Klaus Bachler (Austria), and Alessio Picariello (Belgium), produced an exemplary performance to win by a margin of 4.371 seconds. In the GTD Pro class, Proton Competition placed eighth.
GTD Class: Challenges for Customer Teams
The Wright Motorsports team experienced several setbacks, including penalties that lost them valuable ground, finishing fifth in the GTD class. The Iron Dames team finished their race in 11th position, their second IMSA appearance in the 911 GT3 R.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship now makes its way to Long Beach on April 12 for a 100-minute sprint race down the streets of Los Angeles. With momentum well and truly in its favor, Porsche Penske Motorsport will look to build its dominance further.
The Bottom Line
Porsche’s landslide victory at Sebring reasserts its history in endurance competition. The work and customer team performance confirms the technical excellence and racing heritage of the Porsche 963. Through the remainder of the season, Porsche’s challengers will have a stiff mountain to climb to unseat the current champions.
