Porsche has again redefined electric driving, with the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach package establishing a new electric vehicle lap record at Interlagos, São Paulo. This is the fourth EV lap record for the Taycan, following successes at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Shanghai International Circuit, and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

On 5 February 2025, three-time IMSA champion Felipe Nasr piloted the Taycan Turbo GT around the 4.3-kilometre track in a mere 1:42.1 minutes, beating the previous 2022 record of the Taycan Turbo S of 1:49.8 minutes by almost eight seconds. Strangely enough, this new record also surpassed the previous all-out production-car lap time by the 911 Turbo S (1:43.087 minutes).

Felipe Nasr’s Take on the Record Run

Fresh from his win at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Nasr said the Taycan Turbo GT’s performance was thrilling. “I was anticipating strong acceleration and savage torque, but it was the overall balance that really impressed me,” he said.

Interestingly, on the ascent leading to Curva do Café, Nasr activated Attack Mode, hitting 272 km/h. Moreover, he was already over 200 km/h on the exit of Curva do Sol, emphasizing the car’s relentless power delivery.

“Steering was fantastically precise in slow corners, and stability on heavy braking was impressive,” said Nasr. “The grip, the balance—it’s a real performance car.”

Porsche Brazil’s Strategic Move

Porsche Brazil CEO Peter Vogel highlighted the importance of the record, correlating it with the Taycan launch in the Brazilian market.

The Taycan Turbo GT’s performance is testament to itself. This milestone demonstrates our determination to set new limits in electric mobility.”

A Tested Performer in International Motorsport

Aside from its record-breaking performance, the Taycan Turbo GT has also been on duty as the Formula E Safety Car since May 2024, replacing the Taycan Turbo S.

Piloted by Bruno Correia, it is the most powerful safety car in an FIA World Championship, taking turns between duties with and without the Weissach package.

Engineering Genius Behind the Taycan Turbo GT

Underpinning the Taycan Turbo GT and Weissach variant is pioneering technology. A silicon carbide high-efficiency pulse inverter powers rear-axle performance, such that a maximum output of over 1,100 PS can be achieved. The Attack Mode system adds a further 120 kW boost for up to 10 seconds, as seen on Porsche’s Formula E 99X racing cars.

Lightweight construction techniques, such as high levels of carbon-fibre components, trim the Taycan Turbo GT’s weight by as much as 75 kg from the Taycan Turbo S. The Weissach package takes the car a step further, deleting the rear bench seat for a better power-to-weight ratio.

Both cars benefit from Porsche Active Ride Suspension with GT-tuned suspension, providing the best road connectivity through exact wheel load distribution.

Looking Ahead

The Taycan Turbo GT’s new record at Interlagos reinforces its status as a standard in electric sports car performance. With its unprecedented blend of power, aerodynamics, and accuracy engineering, Porsche continues to demonstrate the capability of EVs in high-performance racing. As the company continues to grow its footprint in key markets such as Brazil, the Taycan Turbo GT is a reflection of Porsche’s drive for excellence in electric mobility.
