With its alluring world premiere set in Milan, the Urban Cruiser marks Toyota’s much-awaited entry into the well sought-after segment of compact battery-electric SUVs.

Effectual Design for Urban Adventures

Developed on the “Urban Tech” design philosophy, the Urban Cruiser boasts a striking, robust SUV character. The “hammerhead” front end, one of the hallmarks of Toyota’s design cue, has a strong, modern, confident look. Bold haunches and wrap-around rear lights make for a confident stance, while 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with lightweight covers help improve the car’s aerodynamics, substantially exemplifying its looks and efficiency in process.

Compact yet roomy, the Urban Cruiser is a bit larger than the Yaris Cross, measuring 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height. A 2,700 mm wheelbase provides excellent cabin space, and a minimum turning radius of 5.2 meters makes it perfect for urban navigation.

Bi-tone exterior options, including a contrasting black roof, further emphasize the Urban Cruiser’s design sophistication.

Innovative Interior

The cabin of the Urban Cruiser speaks volumes about Toyota’s commitment to versatility and comfort. The long wheelbase houses a sliding rear seat system, which enables configurations that are similar to much larger SUVs. The 40:20:40 split-folding seats and reclining options accommodate various passenger or cargo needs.

Premium materials in black and dark grey create a clean, robust interior aesthetic. Ambient lighting with 12 adjustable colors enhances the cabin’s ambiance. The low, horizontal instrument panel and elevated seating position ensure excellent visibility for all occupants.

Advanced technology is integrated throughout the cabin, including a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen with smartphone integration and cloud-based navigation.

Powertrain and Performance

The Urban Cruiser offers two lithium-iron phosphate battery options:

  • 49 kWh (FWD) with 106 kW (144 hp), 189 Nm torque.
  • 61 kWh (FWD) with 128 kW (174 hp), 189 Nm torque.
  • 61 kWh (AWD) with 135 kW (184 hp), 300 Nm torque.

The AWD variant is built tough and safe with a 48 kW motor located on the rear axle for delivering class leading traction and stability on challenging surfaces. Trail Mode, Downhill Assist Control and Snow Mode on FWD models optimize performance and can be used as conditions permit.

The dedicated BEV platform of Toyota enables the Urban Cruiser to reach an optimal strength with lightweight engineering. The removal of floor crossmembers maximizes the interior space. Additionally, safety has been guaranteed with integrated high-voltage protection.

Other efficiency features, which add to performance and performance through climates, are manual battery preheating, in addition to a heat pump-based air conditioning system.

Tech-Driven Safety and Convenience

The Urban Cruiser comes fitted with Toyota’s comprehensive safety suite, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, lane keep assist, and a pre-collision system. Off-road or urban maneuvering is enhanced with a 360-degree camera.

Charging solutions are the Toyota HomeCharge wallbox and the MyToyota app, which allows for real-time charge monitoring, scheduling, and station location. Other features, such as a JBL premium audio system and a fixed sunroof, can be found on higher trims.

The Bottom Line

Production of the new Urban Cruiser started in Spring 2025. Toyota took its glorious public bow at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show. With this battery-electric model, the plug-in hybrid and fuel-cell technologies, Toyota pursues the aim of becoming carbon neutral across Europe by 2040.

The all-new Urban Cruiser will revolutionize the compact SUVs as it is the best package that fuses sustainability, advanced technology, and authentic SUV capabilities.
