In a quest to bring together best-in-class fuel efficiency and utmost practicality, Maruti Suzuki has launched the Swift S-CNG in India. With prices starting at a premium of ₹8.19 lakh ($9,800), in contrast to its petrol counterpart which starts at ₹6.49 lakh ($7,400), this CNG iteration of the new Swift aims at striking the right balance between unmatched refinement and eco-conscious driving.

Where does the S-CNG Stand Against its Gasoline-Powered Sibling?

Powered by the exact same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine as their petrol counterpart, the Swift S-CNG gives a greater emphasis on eco-friendly motoring and enhanced fuel efficiency. While the petrol variant churns out praiseworthy power figures of 80.5 hp and a torque of 111.7 Nm, the CNG variant only puts out a modest 69 hp and 101.8 Nm, despite being 6% more efficient than its previous generation. On the flipside, this slight lag in performance figures is duly compensated by the Swift S-CNG’s formidable fuel efficiency, delivering a commendable 32.85 km/kg in contrast to the 24.80 km/l offered by the manual petrol variant and the 25.75 km/l offered by the AMT petrol variant. This proudly crowns the all-new Swift S-CNG as the nation’s most fuel-efficient car.

However, the Swift S-CNG only offers a 5-speed manual transmission in contrast to its petrol counterpart which offers both 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT gearbox options, making the latter a more versatile choice.

Models and Prices

The all-new Swift S-CNG has hit the markets in three different trims, namely the VXi, VXi (O) and the ZXi. Despite being priced ₹90,000 (approx. $1,100) each above its respective petrol counterparts, the CNG trims accounts for improved long-term savings on fuel costs, making it an ideal partner for daily urban commutes and long drives alike.

Needless to say, the all-new Swift S-CNG will not have an LXi offering. However, this is yet to be confirmed by Maruti Suzuki. Price comparisons are as follows:

That being said, the deliveries of the Swift S-CNG are scheduled to commence by the 12^th of October this year.
