Škoda Auto India, following their nation-wide ‘Name Your Škoda’ campaign has finally unveiled the name of their most anticipated sub-4 metre compact SUV. Christened the “Kylaq”, this mesmerizing yet powerful name embodies the collective choices and discerning tastes of its loyal Indian customers, fostering a deeply rooted connection with its future drivers. Aiming at making its much-awaited global debut in early 2025, the Kylaq is certain to take the erstwhile competitive compact-SUV segment in India by storm, offering superior performance and infinite capabilities.

Named by India, For India
Launched in 2024 February, the ‘Name Your Škoda’ campaign has received a whopping 200,000 entries ever since its inception, with over 24,000 of them being unique name suggestions. However, Škoda eventually came to the conclusion of going forward with the name “Kylaq”, following the much-awaited results of a scrupulous voting process which involved top shortlisted names. As told by Petr Janeba, Škoda Auto India’s Brand Director, the sheer significance of this celebrated nation-wide campaign is that the Kylaq has been named by the people of India, for the people of India. This significantly reinforces Škoda’s lasting legacy in the nation, while remarkably reflecting upon the unparallelled degree of love and loyalty the automotive manufacturer has garnered from its Indian customers.

A New Era in Škoda’s Indian Odessey
As seen in the names of beloved Škoda SUVs like the Kodiaq and Kushaq, the Kylaq continues to uphold the automotive manufacturer’s distinct ICE SUV nomenclature tradition of coining names that begin with “K” and end with “Q”, each symbolizing the automotive manufacturer’s deep connection to strength and nature. Needless to say, the Kylaq will be Škoda’s third India-specific product after the Kushaq and Slavia.

Gloriously reflecting upon the vehicle’s unmatched capabilities while carefully conforming to its Indianness, the name “Kylaq” is gracefully derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal, while simultaneously paying tribute to the magnificent Mt. Kailash. Additionally, the momentous announcement of the Kylaq marks the commencement of Škoda’s revolutionary initiative to manufacture vehicles in India, directing at significantly bringing down maintenance costs.
European Innovation, For India
With the groundbreaking launch of the Kylaq, Škoda aims at enhancing its safety, versatility and overall ownership experience in India. Developed in unison with teams from both India and the Czech Republic, this vehicle will be built on their signature MQB-A0-IN platform, the one shared by the favored Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan. Keenly emphasizing on providing an easefully pleasant experience while ensuring a compact footprint, the Kylaq will reward its customers with a superior ‘big car’ feel.

With the Kylaq, Škoda is certain to debut its Modern Solid design language in India, featuring an iconic hexagon pattern on the sides and rear, clubbed with precisely positioned DRL light signatures. Amplifying the vehicle’s capabilities of traversing varied Indian road conditions are vital attributes like ample wheel space and high ground clearance, substantially reinforcing the Kylaq’s rugged SUV persona.
Looking Ahead
As Škoda Auto India gears up for the Kylaq’s 2025 India unveil, the vehicle has been undergoing rigorous testing in various parts of the country, in a quest to ensure unparallelled motoring standards for its astute Indian customers. As a cherry on top, the winner of the ‘Name Your Škoda’ campaign is all-set to be the Kylaq’s inaugural owner, with ten other participants winning an exclusive vacation to Prague, including a trip to the state-of-the-art Škoda Museum.
